If you are considering attending school in Birmingham, there has never been a better moment than the present! As a result of the fact that the Commonwealth Games will be held in the center of the United Kingdom in 2022, students who begin their university studies in Birmingham between the years 2019 and 2021 will have opportunities to participate in this international athletic event that is unprecedented.
Even though the games are more than three years away, if you are planning to pursue higher education between now and 2022, this event will undoubtedly have a beneficial impact on your student experience, so what better time is there to start thinking about it?
The Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 could give opportunities for you such as the following…
Work experience that is applicable
Our students will have the ability to take advantage of a wide variety of one-of-a-kind possibilities presented by the games, which will help them build employability skills. After all, who wouldn’t want to put their involvement in the Commonwealth Games on their resume?
Depending on their areas of expertise and prior experience, students majoring in sports may have the ability to provide support to athletes before, during, and after competitions. Beyond the realm of sports, there will be plenty of other opportunities for students across the university to get involved with; the Commonwealth Games will need 10,000 volunteers to support the Games in a variety of capacities, including the construction of the city that will host the Games, media coverage, increased healthcare and support services to aid spectators, visitors, and locals, and the list goes on and on.
Why you should participate in the Common Wealth Games?
Richard Handyside, a lecturer in the fields of sport and exercise science, served as a performance analyst for the English Institute of Sport and England Netball during the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast. If you’re considering majoring in sports at this institution, Richard is a great example of the experience and expertise you’ll have access to as a student here. In his comments, Richard says
Commonwealth Games’ advantages
BCU Sport and Exercise graduates will be at the head of the line for employment after the Games because the Games will strengthen their CVs, whether it is through internships, work placements, or just in the capacity of volunteering.
The six weeks I worked as a Performance Analyst on the Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games were some of the most enjoyable in my entire professional career. I came back with a gold medal, which was a nice bonus on top of all the knowledge, growth, and new connections I made throughout my time there. It brings me great joy to continue sharing what I’ve learned with our Sport and Exercise students, and I couldn’t be more thrilled for them as the countdown to Birmingham 2022 continues.
Participate in making history.
The fact that this international event is taking place right here in our backyard is a fantastic opportunity for residents and students in the surrounding area to get involved. Given that it only takes place once every four years and the most recent one was on the opposite side of the world on the Gold Coast, what are the possibilities that the opportunities that this will provide will continue to be so easily available in the future?
Irfan Khawaja, the leader of the sport course, said:
“Let’s get ready for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham! This is an absolutely amazing opportunity for students at BCU, particularly those students who are majoring in Physical Education and School Sport as well as those students who are majoring in other fields of study. We are extremely lucky to have the Commonwealth Games arrive right here in the middle of the country because it will allow us to showcase our nation to the world.
Limitless opportunities
The opportunities that are available to our students are virtually limitless, and I am excited to encourage and accompany students who will be working within the various venues, assisting athletes, providing additional support within management teams, and assisting event organizers in managing the practical aspects of day-to-day operations at an international event. Our students will have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience, during which they will be able to apply essential concepts that they have learned in lectures and seminars to the actual, practical application of sports. It doesn’t get any bigger, and it certainly doesn’t get any better, than this!”
